My name is Jeff Cooke, and I use he/him pronouns. I’m a California native, and was raised in Las Vegas, NV. I first came to the Pacific Northwest for college. I studied Art History at Willamette University, in Salem, OR, and worked in the university’s sculpture studio and theatre. After college, I decided to follow my passion for foreign language, and joined the Navy as an interpreter. I graduated from the Mandarin Basic Course at the Defense Language Institute-Foreign Language Center, in Monterey, CA, in October of 2015. Deploying from Pearl Harbor, on Oahu, I provided direct communications interpretation and analysis support to subsurface platforms in the Western Pacific. At the end of my enlistment, in April of 2020, I returned to the Mainland, and, to school, at Seattle University, where I majored in Asian Studies, and minored in Economics, Philosophy, and International Studies. I graduated in 2022, and relocated from Seattle to Grays Harbor.
Over the pandemic, I reconnected with my love of art and creative expression. Seeking to make a move to a more dynamic and artistically engaged career, I enrolled in cosmetology school at the beginning of 2023. While in school, and through my experience shadowing in barbershops and salons, I developed a keen interest in medium and short length, structured cuts and color transformations. I want to empower my clients by helping them to articulate and realize their aesthetic goals.
As part of my personal style journey, reexamining my relationship with fashion and consumerism, I have discovered the incredible tool of color analysis. I am excited to share what I’ve learned with my clients, through personal color draping and style consultation sessions, whether they are seeking to better define their personal style, build a wardrobe which more readily serves their needs, or change their approach to shopping.
I am inspired by art that is gritty, playful and irreverent. My first thesis focused on Soviet Pop Art, and the influence of popular photography on painting. I am interested in the intersection of semiotics, liminal space, and queerness. I enjoy film and live performance, particularly drag, and drag race is my go-to indulgence tv.
